What Causes Sudden Tremors In The Hands?

Hi, my husband had what I call an episode yesterday and I am concerned and also curious as to what it was. Sorry if too lengthy, but will give you some background and then describe the episode. First, my husband had been going to psychological counseling due to what I would describe as some sort of attachment disorder. He had been given some coping skills and had been doing ok, but yesterday he began behavior that I have seen in the past with not being able to let go of a topic and insisting on an answer right there and then. When I refused to be pulled into an argument, he talked about just getting a divorce, etc. When I still refused to continue and started to walk away, he had what I am calling an episode . He was lying on the bed and all of a sudden both hands were cuffed (finger to finger as if holding a ball in both hands) and his hands were visibly shaking. He also looked as if he was somewhere else in his mind. When I came towards him, he was still shaking, staring into space, kept saying how afraid he was with a few tears coming out of his eyes and also began to say he was having trouble breathing getting to the point of saying I cannot breath and doing what I would say would be hyperventilating. Luckily I was able to calm him down and he was able to compose himself again in about 15-20 minutes, but I am concerned especially when he describes being afraid and being afraid of me which would be perceived as I have never given him a reason to feel that way. I did ask him to consult with his therapist (hoping he wlll) during his next appointment, but until then, what would you advise?
