What Causes Sudden Rise In Blood Pressure Along With Severe Headaches?

Hi I have never had Blood Pressure issues before. I went to see my doctor last week and he said my blood pressure is high. (I do not have the reading). I am 50 y, 172kg, 1.83m. never smoke, never alcohol. History of last 6 weeks: woke up in middle of a night with a severe headache. took 2 nurofen and back to bed. all fine then. during the next day I realized that the right hand side of my face is feeling numb . nothing else wrong, no more headache. Sight fine, motoring, movements, speech, everything fine. Thought it would come right. It did not. That is why I went to the doctor last week, for I started to get more headaches and when I cough or blow my nose, I get a stabbing pain on the right hand side of my head above the ear. Face still numb feeling on right hand side. Will do a MRI scan next week for the side of my head. Headache today and had my blood pressure taken 145/73 . I am not on any medication. history in family of heart attacks and strokes. any advice appreciated

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
At the outset I would like to assure that you need not to think much about this until it diagnoses something.

This could be due to high blood pressure only
In my opinion you should consult your doctor for recording of BP twice daily for 5 days after taking adequate rest
if it comes elevated consistently than requires treatment
So MRI can be postponed until you get the treatment for high BP.
Avoid salt and fatty food.
try to reduce your weight and to be good shape

Hope this helps you
