What Causes Sudden Onset Of Ear Pain?

I have an earache. It s onset was sudden yesterday. The pain seems to come and go every few seconds (like contractions of childbirth. I have had a cough, which I thought was from allergies. It seems to be migrating to the other ear, but mildly and that just started. Should I go to an urgent care or is there something I can do at home to ease the pain? I am seventy years of age, but very active and of fairly good health. I live in the St. Louis, MO area to give you an idea of the weather.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As you had this sudden onset ear pain recently, that seems migrating to the other ear, I think you should get checked by your primary physician first. No need to go to the ER, taking into account your personal history of being very active, and suffering from allergies. You can take paracetamol to ease the pain, and apply warm compresses on the painful ear until you see your primary physician.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
