Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I laid across my bed this morning (with head elevated) and then again this afternoon for a few minutes. While laying there I felt like I was having a nose bleed but instead both nostrils were leaking a brown liquid. I first thought it might could have been refulx but I ve not had reflux in almost 10 years or any problems with my stomach. It also had a very strong bile like smell to it. I have a history of bowel obstructions but am not showing any signs of that now.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Generally, nose bleeds happens suddenly and most of the times it is painless. It is caused due to fragile blood vessels present in the 'Little's area' on the mucosal surface of nose. The cause of it could be dryness or infection present in the nose. Sometimes it could be caused due to Vitamin K or Vitamin C deficiency as well. When bleeding occurs actively, kindly bend forward, pinch your nose tightly and breath through mouth. Kindly take Vitamin K and Vitamin C supplements and the foods containing these vitamins like citrus fruits and green leafy vegetables. In case the bleeding happens repeatedly, you might need cauterization of blood vessels and for that you need to consult ENT Surgeon for appropriate management. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
