What Causes Sudden Irritation And Swelling In The Throat?

I m a 68 yo female. I was talking on phone when out of the blue my throat and back of the pallet felt irritated and swollen. I was able to breath. Then my right hand started tingling like I might be dehydrated. I ve been drinking iced tea all day. I forgot to eat today and had just started to nibble on cheese goldfish crackers which tasted stale. My blood pressure was 138/64. Any idea what might have caused this? It passed after about 10-15 minutes but throat and pallet still feel irritated.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be pharyngitis or sore throat. As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

You can do warm saline gargle for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
