What Causes Sudden Headache, Weakness And Shivering?

My eighty year old husband had a sudden headache about an hour ago. He had weakness and chills with visible shaking. We live in the desert and the temperature inside the house is 85 degrees. He complained of hurting all over as if he had the flu, but the symptoms were so sudden. He is now asleep in his recliner, covered by a blanket. What could this possibly be? Do I need to be on the alert to call paramedics if his condition does not improve?
