What Causes Sudden And Severe Chest Pain?

Sitting in chair I had a sudden heavy pain in chest that went around to my back. Very sudden and strong. I am 59, have no history of heart problems and I walked 3 brisk miles this morning. But when I called my husband because of the pain he gave me half an aspirin and within a few minutes it went away. Now I m confused. Is there anything besides a heart attack that can bring on sudden strong pain without warning?

Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Besides cardiac cause this type of sudden chest pain is seen in
1. Muscular pull or compression.
2. Rib compression.
Both are possible in uncomfortable sitting position.
So you might be having uncomfortable sitting posture which cause you pain.
Since aspirin is also having pain killer action, your pain is subsided by it which suggest musculoskeletal cause more.
But I still advice you to get done ECG To rule out cardiac cause.
As you are having risk factors for cardiac cause like age more than 55,female gender etc.
