What Causes Stomachache Along With Diarrhea And Vomiting In A Child?

I have a daughter, 10 years old, who has had stomach pain (nausea, diarrhea, very little vomiting) since Monday (it is now Saturday night). In all other ways, she seems perfectly normal. Good color, high energy, no fever, etc. Is it possible she is suffering from a stomach bug that has lasted this long?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query in HealthCareMagic

This has to be a mild case of gastroenteritis.
I would recommend few advise to be followed:
- Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid caffeine and other carbonated drinks. Fresh fruit juice is also good.
- In case of vomiting, give spoonfuls of ORS to replenish the loss of electrolytes which would be more when associated with diarrhea.
- When she feels like eating, kindly start with light foods like rice porridge, bread roast, fruits.
- In case she develops fever, I would suggest to start her on antibiotics.
Hope this helps
