My father was in ICU for 2 weeks for a urinary tract infection and was put on Rifagut. Since disconinuing Rifagut he has developed a stomach infection and passes stools about 10 times a day. We clearly cannot give him an antibiotic life Rifagut indefinitely buy as my father is still on a catheter and not cured of the UTI do we resume Rifagut or try another drug?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your father seem to be related to the use of antibiotics. I suggest using an over the counter option to treat diarrhea such as Imodium. I also suggest using daily probiotics and eat a plain diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
