What Causes Stiffness In The Lower Jaw While Yawning?
Hello Doctor,
While yawning my jaw is getting strucked yearly twice or thrice and after several trails within one hour able to set it as normal. That pain will last upto two hours. I am facing this problem from last three years. Consulted nearly 5 ENT doctors within this span.
Can you please suggest appropriate doctor to Whom I need to consult to resolve this issue.
I am residing in Hyderabad, my home town is Guntur . Please help me.
With your explanation it is very clear that your jaw joint gets dislocated when you open the mouth too wide and it is the cause of jaw getting stuck and painful.
It can be due to the weakening of ligaments around the jaw, improper alignment after every dislocation, TMJ trauma, etc.
So, my suggestion is to consult an oral surgeon and get evaluated. A panoramic x-ray should be done to check the jaw joints. Treatment includes proper reduction of the jaw in its anatomical position, wearing of mouth guards, physiotherapy and medication like anti-inflammatory pain killers and muscle relaxants.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
