What Causes Spotting While On Amethyst Birth Control Pills?

I began taking the continuous birth control Amethyst 2 months ago. I started taking it in the middle of my cycle, while I was ovulating. My doctor said this quick start method would be fine as I am not sexually active and am taking it solely to get rid of my painful periods. The first month I had no side effects at all. On the first day of the second month I began spotting and it turned into light breakthrough bleeding that lasted for the next 4 weeks. I became pretty annoyed so I stopped taking the pills for 2 days. Dumb idea..I know. I changed my mind on the 2nd night when I started having cramps and decided to start taking them again. The pill insert says to take 2 pills for the next 2 days to make up for the ones I missed. So I took one immediately and took another one 12 hours later. I have been bleeding heavily for the past 3-4 hours and I passed 2 large clots that contain a large amount of white fleshy tissue. Each of these clots was approximately the size of a golf ball. I ve never had sex so it can t be a miscarriage. I believe this is probably the uterine lining since I have skipped my period for 2 months. What I really want to know is how to get back on schedule with my pills and if the tissue I m passing is cause for concern. Do I take another 2 pills tomorrow, then go back to taking one each day? Should I stop taking the pills and restart them at a later date? Thanks in advance!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Slight menstrual irregularities including spotting and delayed periods can happen with any birth control pills.

Nothing to worry and it will settle by itself.

No treatment is required and you can consult a gynecologist in case of persistent symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
