What Causes Spotting After Having Sex During Pregnancy?
Hello, I am in my third trimester of pregnancy about to hit 7 months on the 25th of this month. About two to three weeks ago i went to the hospital because i saw spotting, they did tests and said everything was okay it was probably because i had sex eariler that day and my cervix was sensitive. Now when i have sex it happens sometimes. I want to know what i should do? If i should worry? and if i should stop having sex? please get back to me. I am worried. Thank you.
Hi, I have gone through your question. Spotting after intercourse in pregnancy can occur because of : 1. Increased vascularity of the cervix and vagina in pregnancy 2. Some local lesions in cervix or vagina 3. Placenta previa( placenta lying lower in the uterus). I would suggest you to get a ultrasound done to locate the position of placenta. If placenta is normally located, then do consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined to rule out any local lesions. In the meantime, do avoid intercourse as it may cause heavy bleeding in case of placenta previa. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Regards, Dr Deepti verma
