What Causes Spots In The Field Of Vision?

My eye doctor told me I have a pinguecula on my eye, however, I have done a little research on this condition and have found that this condition appears mostly on the whites of the eye. The spot on my eye is in my field of vision and appear to me more like a blister or cluster of blisters. Is there another possible condition?

Hi,

Spots or blisters in the field of vision could be caused by several conditions, and it is important to have them evaluated by an eye doctor to determine the underlying cause. Some possible conditions that could cause spots in the field of vision include:
- Floaters: Floaters are specks or clouds that appear in the field of vision and move around when the eye moves. They are caused by small clumps of cells or proteins that cast a shadow on the retina.
- Retinal detachment: Retinal detachment is a serious condition that occurs when the retina separates from the back of the eye. Symptoms can include flashes of light, floaters, and a curtain-like shadow in the field of vision.
- Macular degeneration: Macular degeneration is a progressive eye disease that affects the macula, which is responsible for central vision. Symptoms can include blurriness, distortion, and blind spots in the center of the field of vision.
- Migraines: Some people experience visual disturbances, such as flashing lights or zigzag lines, before the onset of a migraine headache.

While a pinguecula typically appears as a yellowish or white bump on the white of the eye, it can cause irritation or discomfort that could affect vision. It is important to follow up with your eye doctor to determine the underlying cause of the spot in your field of vision and to receive appropriate treatment.

Hi,

Several conditions can cause spots or floaters in the field of vision. Pinguecula is a yellowish growth on the conjunctiva (the clear tissue that covers the white part of the eye) and typically does not cause spots in the field of vision.

Other possible causes of spots in the field of vision include:
* Vitreous floaters: Small bits of protein or debris in the clear gel-like substance (vitreous) that fills the inside of the eye can cast shadows on the retina, causing spots or floaters in the field of vision.
* Retinal detachment: A tear or separation of the retina from the underlying tissue can cause sudden onset of spots or floaters in the field of vision, along with flashes of light.
* Macular degeneration: This is a progressive condition that affects the central part of the retina (macula) and can cause blurred or distorted vision, including spots in the field of vision.
* Migraine: Some people experience visual disturbances such as spots, flashing lights, or zigzag lines before or during a migraine headache.

It is important to consult with an eye doctor if you experience any sudden onset or changes in spots or floaters in your vision. A comprehensive eye exam can determine the reason for your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
