What Causes Sporadic Bruising On The Fingers For A 62-year-old?

Over the last three days...I have had sporadic bruising on the inside of the middle part of my fingers....first on my left hand, in the middle of my middle finger, with tingling at the tip. It looked extremely bruised...then went away. Today I had the same symptoms , on the ring finger, of my right hand....very dark bruising, cold and some numbness in the tip of my ring finger. I rubbed my hand ...warmed it up...and now there is no sign, but this is new and sudden. I am a 62 year old, healthy female, not on any medications. I do do strength training and do not know if it could just be a complication of over training....or something else.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are doing strengthening exercises, it may cause tears in the blood vessels leading to bruising. Go easy with your body to avoid post workout bruising.

Icing the affected area may bring relieve. Topical application of vitamin K creams speeds up the recovery process.

Bruises can also get relieved by applying aloe vera & arnica oil. Bruises may not always be markers of serious health problems but sometimes they may be.

However, since you have been having symptoms of numbness & tingling you are suggested to visit a Neurologist & get clinically examined.

Get Nerve Conduction tests & Nerve biopsy done to detect any developing peripheral neuropathy. Get EMG & EEG done to be on the safer side.

In the meantime you can take vitamin B6, B12 with minerals supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
