What Causes Spike In Blood Pressure?

I m taking glipizide 2 tab a day, 1 pill in the morning before breakfast then 1 pill before dinner. I notice my blood pressure goes up to 150/95 as per my doctor instructions. I used to take it in the afternoon only, once a day. My BP is fine. Please help! Thks.

Thanks for writing to us.
There is no direct correlation between spike of high blood pressure and increasing the dose of diabetic medication. Only plausible association could be that with increase in diabetic medication, your blood sugar goes too low and in response to this the BP rises secondarily. However such an episode will be associated with other symptoms of low blood sugar like sweating , uneasiness, disorientation, slurred speech etc.
If your blood pressure is rising consistently, there can be more reasons rather than glipizide. It may be simply 'essential hypertension'. Do consult your physician and start management for same.
