What Causes Soreness In The Throat And Cough?

Good day Dr. Rynne,
My daughter who is 16, has been experiencing a deep cough. Today she says she feels like there is liquid in her lungs that she wants to cough up but it doesn't come up. Her throat is very sore as of late, and it really hurts when she coughs. I know I need to get her to a Doctor, but we live in the country and only have one vehicle which my Husband uses for work. Just wondering if you have any suggestions for things I can do for her, and I know without seeing her it would be difficult to diagnose. I'm thinking it could be pnemonea or bronchitis...your thoughts please...and thank you.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that deep cough along with mucous in chest and sore throat can be seen in conditions like Severe Chronic Upper Respiratory Tract Infection, Lung Infection, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Pneumonia, Bronchitis etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Pulmonologist and get evaluated and he can advise you investigations like chest x Ray, throat swab culture,, CBC etc..
She can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, mucolytics like Ambroxol, anti allergics like Benadryl or Allegra, cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan and cough expectorant containing Guaifenesin..
Do warm chest compresses..
Sip on warm water and other warm fluids..
Take soft diet and sufficient rest..
