Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Soreness In The Neck And Tenderness In The Glands?
this is the 2nd time in than 6 months that I have had this episode of discomfort with my tongue/mouth and neck glands. It looks like my tongue has waves along the side, and swollen buds on the edges (only in the back on the left side). Both sides of my neck are sore and the glands are tender. Is this something I should be concerned about - my PCP didn t seem to be when it happened the first time
The possibility of mumps should be ruled out and if the symptoms are severe an otolaryngologist review may be needed. Other possibilities like local fungal infections etc may also be ruled out. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen as anti inflammatory drugs and oral hydration can be helpful. Antibiotics like co amoxclav are used for secondary bacterial infection. Vitamin C supplements can also have a useful role.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
