What Causes Soreness In The Breasts After Mammography?

About two months ago I had my annual mammogram which indicated three suspicious spots that were not on my prior xrays. I returned to the hospital and had at least 5 more xrays. Some one reviewed the xrays and it determined that I would need an ultrasound. A week or two later I called my Dr. office to see if i needed to do any additional followup. They (a nurse) said the notes said to follow up in 6 months. Since the mammogram my breast continues to be sore. Something I hadn t noticed before is the breast appears to be a little larger than normal. My right breast was usually a little smaller i.e. the right cup of my bra was not filled as completely than the left. Both bra cups are now completely filled. Most of my friends are urging me to have another mammogram and not to wait 6 months. They have stories of friends or relatives that waited and were found to have stage 4 cancer. What do you suggest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I think you should consider doing an ultrasound or maybe you did one. If its results were not found suspicious than you don't need any other examinations. If it is suspicious biopsy needs to be done. Your symptoms maybe are psychological. Listen only to the advices of your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
