What Causes Sore Throat?

I am 19 years old. I had sore throat from 2 weeks and doctor recommended me to have a CBC test so they can look for the reason i am having a sore throat, he said from the test they could known that the throat is red due to bacteria OR virus, i have smoked 1 cigratte after 2 weeks and just 27 hours before my CBC test and had marijuana about 3 weeks ago, would the results show some nicotine OR anything related to smoking?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

No, CBC will not tell anything about drug addiction. If CBC shows high count and neutrophilia than bacterial infection can be the possibility. If it shows lymphocytosis then viral infection is the possibility. If eosinophilia then allergic inflammation might be the reason. So investigate with CBC that will beneficial for deciding further management. If needed throat swab also will be beneficial.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
