What Causes Sore Throat?

Hi my name is Amanda and I am a 37 year old woman and a smoker and I had a sore throat with drainage so I snorted and coughed up a nickle sized fleshy brownish green solidlump with a llittle blood in it then I did it again and I have had a sore throat ever since it has been about two weeks, should I worry or is this typical of a smoker of twenty years? I m worried cancer runs on both sides of my family, not throat cancer but stomach cancer! Thank you for your time!

Hi,
It looks like a respiratory tract infection secondary to chronic bronchitis caused due to chronic smoking.
Firstly you need to reduce smoking gradually and finally quit it.
As of now for the infection kindly visit a physician. You may be prescribed antibiotics with bronchodilators.
i also recommend get a pulmonary function test done .
About stomach cancer there are certain screening tests . you can tell your physician regarding the family history of stomach cancer. they will screen you for that.

Regards,
Dr.Riyanka
