What Causes Sore Throat Followed By Post Nasal Drip?

Three weeks ago I came down with a sore throat that progressively got worse. I had two nurse consults via telephone and thet said what I had sounded viral and I just had to ride it out...everyone has it, they said. It got so bad that not only was it extremely painful to eat or drink; but, even hard to swallow saliva. Went to my doctor thinking Inmight have strep throat. Got a culture done and found it wasn t strep. But my doctor had allowed me a 10-day prescription for Augmentin. After taking only 1pill I noticed some relief. During the course of the antibiotic, although the sore throat was signifucanyly reduced I never felt 100% like I was totally rid of it. Have slight post nasal drip, slight cough and now after finishing my antibiotic 4 days ago I feel like my sore throat is coming back. My glands were swollen too. I have some ouffiness on left side of neck. In addition, I have Hashimotos Disease. I have been a little hoarse with all of this continuously as well. I m concerned this could be cancer. Don t be afraid to be brutally honest with me as I am looking for answers. As a last note, I have had varying symptoms of sinus infections, cough, sore throat, cold symptoms ongoing for 4 months. I will get better in between for a week or two and then on to something else; but, this last episode is not seeming to let up. Apologize for such a long explanation but thought details would help. Thanks in advance for your professional advice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Ihave gone through your query.I am of the opinion that you are having Sinusitis with an Upper respiratory tract infection.I would advice you the following: 1-A Fexofenadine-Montelukast 120/10mg once at bed time x 10 days.2-A nasal spray Awamys 2 puffs in both nostrils once a day.I don't think this could be cancer.
I find this answer helpful
