What Causes Sore Throat Along With Swelling In Neck Glands?

My son has a really bad sore throat, I can't tell if it is red because he can't open his mouth very wide because of the pain. He has felt lousy for 2-3 days. His glands in the neck are swollen, he is not running a fever. He has some aches, but that comes and goes. I'm wondering if it is mono. He seems run down, very fatigued.

As per your complain it seems that sore throat along with swollen neck glands and aches can be due to bacterial infection while can also be due to viral infection leading to Pharyngitis and tonsillitis..

For confirmation consult an Otolaryngologist or an ENT expert and get evaluated..
He can do investigations like Throat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

You can be advised:
-Antibiotics like Augmentin OR Azithromycin to resolve the infection..
-Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain. -Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
-You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat..
-Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
-Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
-Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
