What Causes Sore Throat Along With Difficulty While Swallowing?

The back of my throat is sore way high up, near my sinuses and when I stick out my tongue and swallow it hurts. I have been sick off and on with a congested cough since before Christmas. I recently finished 10 days of Augmentin. Now what? I do have allergies. I have a runny nose and I take Zurtec every evening.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

With the post nasal drip that normally goes along with a runny nose, this would definitely contribute to your sore throat and pain when the tongue is protruded.

If this can be treated effectively, then the discomfort should resolve.

You need to use an oral and topical decongestant along with the zyrtec. Zyrtec d is available or you can use another antihistamine decongestant combination.
Topical decongestants include xylometazoline and oxymetazoline.

A nasal spray such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase or rhinocort may also help.

I hope this helps
