What Causes Sore Like Pimple Inside Nose Of An Immunosuppressed Person?

I am a 3 years post liver transplant patient-doing very well but I am immunosuppressed. I am also a RN working in a hospital environment so I am in contact with patients who have MRSA and other infectious diseases. I am a good hand washer and try to reduce my risk of exposures. I am worried because I have had a sore pimple-like thing in one or both sides of the inside of my nose for several months now. It is severely painful and now the outside of my nose is red and swollen. I am cancer-phobic. I developed a hepatoma in my liver after surviving treatment for hepatitis C which I got after a really bad needle stick while starting an IV on a combative patient. I am concerned that I may have a cancer inside my nose. I will see my transplant doctor, but I am currently working in a rather remote area and will not be able to be seen by him for awhile. Could you put my mind at ease while I wait to see my surgeon?thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The sore pimple-like thing inside your nose may be a result of an infection, such as a bacterial or fungal infection. Given your immunosuppressed state, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible to prevent any potential complications. The redness and swelling on the outside of your nose suggest that the infection may have spread beyond the inside of your nose.

While cancer is a possibility, it is not the most likely cause of the sore inside your nose. Infections are a more common cause of these symptoms. However, it is important to have a healthcare professional examine the sore to determine the exact cause and provide appropriate treatment. I would strongly encourage you to make an appointment with a healthcare provider as soon as possible.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
