What Causes Sore And Runny Nose And Pimples On Nostrils?

The tip of my nose is exceptionally sore. I can not even touch it. I have been having problems with an intermittent runny nose for the last couple weeks. Then the right nostril had a sore or what I thought could be a pimple (or ingrown hair) inside which went away, then a day later the left nostril got one...now a day after that cleared up the entire tip of my nose is so tender I can not touch it .... what is happening to me?

Hi. What you have is called as nasal vestibulitis.

It is an infection of the skin lining your nasal cavity especially from the hair follicles that arise within your nose. Nasal vestibulitis is rather painful and even though it is just a pimple on your nose it is more dangerous than what it may appear and needs to be treated aggressively. infections from this area of the nose can spread directly to the brain.

In my opinion you need a course of oral antibiotics, topical antisceptic ointments and anti-inflammatory medications. I would recommend that you see an ENT specialist soon to check if there is any pus accumulating at the tip of the nose which may need to be drained.A medicated wick may be placed to prevent reaccumulation. IV antibiotics may also be indicated based on the severity of the infection.

Please do not try to pinch the nose or attept drainaige of pus by yourself. You may worsen the infection. Keep the area dry and let your ENT specialist manage this appropriately.

Keep yourself hydrated and take pain killers such as paracetamol 500 mg dosage 2-3 times a day till you see your ENT.
