What Causes Smelling Bad Odors After Taking Flonase?

Hi- I just started using Flonase a couple of weeks ago. I have a collapsed septum and some polyps. Just a couple of days ago I was in the shower and swore that the sewer had backed up. I got out and everything was okay. The smell went away. Then the next night I washed my face and blew and I smelled the sewer smell again. I blew my nose and it went away about 15 mins. later. Tonight the same thing happened again. I stopped using the Flonase yesterday. What could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Flonase (fluticasone propionate) is a nasal spray used to treat nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itching, and other allergy symptoms. In some cases, Flonase has been known to cause a foul odor or a metallic taste in the mouth. This is thought to be due to the drug's interaction with the mucous membranes in the nasal passages. The foul odor or taste typically disappears after a few days of using the medication. If the smell or taste persists, it is recommended to speak with a doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
