What Causes Slight Bleeding After Laparoscopic Removal Of An Ovary?

Hi, 4 weeks ago I had laprospopic removal of an ovary with a large endometrial cyst which had stuck to me pelvic wall, my bladder and the ureter. My other ovary was fine. I also had a hysteroscopy and cystoscope to check inside my womb and bladder for endometriosis there, there was none, and the mirena coil was fitted. I have been lightly bleeding since the op, but now I seem to have started to see bits of reddish pink tissue in my urine and am a little concerned about what this is- it isn t clotted blood, is this normal? Thanks Louise

Hi Louise

It is indeed normal after surgery of this caliber. You should also know that mild bleeding as seen by you is normal for a while, whilst being on the mirena. A hormonal change in levels takes place due to the surgery as well as the mirena and so such a presentation is common. If it continues and lasts for longer than 2-3 weeks then it would be worth reporting to your treating doctor.

Best wishes
