General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to 'Ask me Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This type of nail abnormalities are usually seen with iron deficiency anaemia.
however other conditions like thyroid, kidney problems or vitamin C deficiency can also lead to cracking of nails.
So do following tests -
Hb test
complete blood count
differential counts
kidney function test
thyroid hormone levels (T4,T3 & TSH)

for iron deficiency anaemia start ferrous sulphate tablets in night and folic acid tablet 12 hourly for 3-4 months.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
Dr. Hiren
