What Causes Sickness And Vomiting After Wisdom Tooth Removal?

Hi. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted today at 730 am. I came home and slept for a few hours and when I woke up I vomited around 2. And I just did again. Is this common? I have had several surgeries before and have never gotten sick from anesthesia before.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain vomiting after wisdom tooth removal is not a very uncommon finding and if it happens for a fewer times like 2-3 times you need not to worry..

It may happen due to interaction with anaesthesia given for numbing your wisdom tooth and other structures like gums and bone.

It can also occur due to antibiotics and painkillers if you have taken on an empty stomach or in case you are getting allergy to any of the drugs present in the medicines.

At times if you swallow blood during the surgical procedure it can also cause vomiting but it has fewer chances but cannot be neglected as stomach cannot digest blood.

I would suggest you to stay calm and need not worry if you do not get vomits again..

Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration as vomiting can cause water loss from body.

Start eating well although you must be advised to take soft and liquid diet , eat those things also in considerable quantity as being empty stomach disturbs the normal functioning of digestive system.Incorporate yoghurt in your diet.

Follow the instructions and medications prescribed by your dentist.

If the vomiting persist you should consult your dentist as it may be happening due to allergic reaction to medicines.

Hope your query is solved..
