What Causes Shortness Of Breath When Under Treatment For Parkinson S Disease?
I am 62 and have had Parkinson s disease for 12 years. In the last 2 months, I have been experiencing shortness of breath. I am not seeing a pattern. Some days I have no difficulty. Other days it seems to last all day. I take Sinemet (generic). My nurse practitioner suggested I increase the dose by 1/2 a pill but I have not found that to be helpful. I want to understand how the shortness of breath can be managed if it is caused by the Sinemet wearing off. Thank you.
Hi, Levodopa has a side effect of occasional breathing shortness or difficulty in some cases. In your case it may be due to some other reason like seasonal asthma, allergic asthma etc. With increasing the drug won't help you instead in might worse the situation. You can take inhaler bronchodilators like steroids or alpha agonists or anticholinergics or their combination. This form of medication has nearly none or very lesser side effects, so you can manage your SOB by this alternative drugs. But you must consult your physician before starting this medication and never try to self medicate.
