Hi. I am a 27 year old woman who was diagnosed with C.O.P.D. three years ago. I am in the early stages of the disease and quit smoking two weeks prior to my diagnosis(I smoked for 15 years and the doctors were shocked at the condition of my lungs considering my age, but I began smoking at the tender age of 8). I have few symptoms constantly, such as easily winded & fatigued with periods of bad coughing and tender lungs. I have just found out I am pregnant(approximately 4-6 weeks) and already I have had a few moments here and there where my heart beats heavily and I feel as if I am going to pass out. This scares me and I am concerned about oxygen supply to the baby. Any suggestions on what I can do to besides breathing exercises to ensure plenty of oxygen? And should I expect any complications?
COPD with pregnancy is indeed a complication, and in such cases your doctor will choose whether or not to prescribe you with medications to improve the delivery of oxygen to your body and your fetus in turn. Breathing exercise are indeed necessary, but they might not suffice. So please do speak to your doctor about the medications.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
