What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Increased Heart Rate?

My daughter is turning 21 on Nov 19. She has been experiencing severe shortness of breath...taking a flight of steps leaves her gasping for air. Her heart rate increases sometimes to 200 bpm from very little activity.just going from lying down to standing doubles her heart rate. She was in the er and had a multitude of tests done. She has seen 2cardio doctors and a pulmonologist. She has had an echo with Doppler, chest X-ray, blood work, cortisol levels, holter monitor, breathing tests...nothing is showing up. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, this could be cardiac or any respiratory cause but as you said this workup is negative then likely it is Anxiety.

It would be better to calm her down and try to figure out the cause of this torment if she still is having the symptoms then she might need psychiatric and psychologist. There are medicine like Propanolol that can help her symptoms go away.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
