What Causes Sharp Pains In The Upper Left Abdominal Area?

my 33 year old daughter started having severe sharp pains in her upper left abdominal area - just under the rib - when i press on her mid thoracic spine it eases the pain - went to the e.r. Saturday and they did blood work, cat scan and ekg - said all was normal - spleen, kidneys, etc. fine - still having pain - it is periodic and comes on quickly

She may need an mri scan at thoraco-lumbar spine level. These issues could be due to compression of the nerve supply that originates from the spinal cord in the back. That could be due to a problem in the spinal disc that may press on the nerve causing pain in the parts that it may supply infront near the ribs.
Therefore pressing on the spine may relieve the compression tempoararily only to recurr later on.
