What Causes Sharp Pain On Right Top Side Of Head?

I have sharp pains in the right top side of my head. Feels like a knife being plunged into my head. Then it s gone for a while. I have no symptoms of sinus problems and there is no headache accompanied with it. Just the pain, then it s gone for a while. I had these about 2 years ago and they ran an MRI and an X-ray and found nothing. Then one day I had a terrible one, then it was gone for all this time. Now it s back. Causes me to wake up when it happens when I m sleeping.

I really appreciate your concern,
Headaches have numerous causes including TMJ, temporal arteritis, tension headache or migraine.

But most probably your headache looks like Migraine in this case propranolol will be helpful

For Temporal arteritis this is a condition from an autoimmune disorder. There would be a tender ropy feeling to the temporal artery which is found on the side of the head just by the eyebrow. To diagnoses temporal arteritis you need additional lab testing.

With typical migraine or tension headaches there are several treatments including ibuprofen or Naprosyn and Imitrex. I recommend that you discuss this with your doctor.
