What Causes Sharp Pain In The Upper Right Rib Under Breast?

I am having a sharp pain in my upper right rib just under my breast. It came on out of the blue and has lasted 3 days now. I was sick for 4 weeks with a mild cough. Nothing too severe and I did not receive a blow to my chest. It hurts to take deep breaths, sneeze, cough and roll over in bed. What could this be?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your pain is most likely due to pleurisy (inflammation of pleura).
Since you had cough which was lasted for 4 weeks, we should definitely rule lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) because this is common after common cold and can cause pleurisy.
So get done chest x ray.
You will need antibiotic, anti inflammatory and anti histamine drugs.
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry for lung infection. Musculoskeletal pain can also cause similar symptoms.
So take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs. Apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
