Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sharp Pain In The Lower Leg Radiating To The Upper Leg?
I have been experiencing a sharp pain in my right leg (like an electric shot) It seems to be moving from my lower leg to upper leg. My trainer thinks I may have a pinched nerve? I am a little concerned as it comes and goes. It has been going on for a few days.
Thanks for putting your query over here. Going through the scenario you explained, there are 3-4 possibilities which can be the most likely cause of the pain. Firstly, the sharp pain caused may be due to sciatica.Do you have any pain in back on right side radiating to leg or pain that is exaggerated while sudden standing from sitting position? It can be pain due to torn ligament or ligament injury which exaggerates on movement.Do you feel more pain if you press over the area with your finger? Is your pain associated with any swelling of ankle or skin colour change of leg to rule out deep vein thrombosis? If any answer to all these questions is yes,you need to visit a physician to confirm the respective diagnosis. For the pain, you can have a symptomatic relief by taking anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen or naproxen.Follow some back muscles strengthening exercises.Keep yourself well hydrated while on workout and follow proper muscle relaxing exercises.
Thanks and regards.
