What Causes Sharp Pain In The Head During 37th Week Pf Pregnancy?

My daughter in law is 37 weeks pregnant and has just started have a severe sharp pain in the left side of her head. They only last a few seconds to 20 seconds. See had her regular OB appt. today. Told her doctor maid it was probably heat related. But she has not been hot lately. What do you think might be the possible cause and should we be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Short bursts of pain are usually either related to muscular spasm or may be nerve related (neuralgia).

This may be a temporary or permanent problem. They are different possible causes if it is nerve related.

Nerve related causes include: (1) diabetes
(2)trauma
(3)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(4)side effect of medication
(5)infection
(6)exposure to toxins
(7)stress
(8)liver or kidney disease
(9)idiopathic- cause not known
(10) hormonal such as thyroid disease

I hope this helps
