Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
HI, I have a sharp pain in back of my neck that sometimes goes to my shoulder. Feels like a possible pinched nerve. When I lie down the pain goes away. Any suggestions how to remove the pain? I am trying neck exercises and posture. I am 53 years old good shape at 200 lbs 5 10 . I coach baseball and play golf. I felt the pain first when throwing batting practice and after and during my rounds of golf. Any suggestions would be great. This pain has been going on for about 2 months now. I have used Advil which alleviates the pain for a few hours but then the pain comes back. Thank you. Mike
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM The pain you describe may be caused by the following medical conditions: -Stress/strain from your job/activities -Cervical osteoarthritis -Nerve compression. The neck happens to be a place with a coordinated network of muscles, nerves and vertebrae. If any of the nerves is irritated, the effect may be felt in all parts of the body to which the nerve leads. I will suggest: -You take a break/rest -Continue with advil -Take a myorelaxant like miorel If pain persist, you see the Doctor for examination. He may then judge the need for other treatment options like different line of pain drugs, steroid shots and physiotherapy. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
