What Causes Sharp Pain In Right Hip And Leg While Treating Herniated Disc In Lower Spine?

I am a 54 year old female I have had back issues for 12 years. It started out with a couple of herinated disc in my lower spine. I had a MRI a few months ago, my doctor shared the results with me. I have osteoarthritis in multiply vertebrates. I also have pain that shoots down my right hip to my knee. I seldom feel as if an electrical current is running up and down my right leg. When I go to sleep at night, I rarely sleep over 3 hours before I am awaken with pain in my lower back and right hip. Most nights I am awaken 3--4 times with pain and try to move and find a more comfortable position. When I get up to begin my day, I am in tremendous pain for about 15--20 minutes as I move. Presently I am taking Naproxin 500mg. 2 times a day. I am having bad heartburn and stomach ache with this. Today I had a cortisone shot in my right thigh. That was 10 hours ago. So, does that mean the shot is not going to help my pain? What is my next steps?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The pain in leg is due to the herniated disc. Osteoarthritis of vertebrae has led to degenerative change in vertebrae leading to compression of nerve roots and thus pain. Pain killers and steroids are the only medical remedy for the problem. Heart burn can be avoided by taking proton pump inhibitors on regular basis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
