What Causes Sharp Pain In Chest Post Plasma Donation?
I work at a plasma donation center and know proper protocol, procedure, and possible side effects of plasma donation, but I just donated and once I stood up i started feeling a sharp pain in my chest right where my sternum lies. It hurts more intensely when i bend my chest inward or stretch backwards. It does not hurt to touch or put pressure on. I also feel it more when I inhale or exhale strongly. Any idea why this is happening?
Hello , Welcome to HCM. Chest pain can be due to plasma donation and can also be due to heart problem as well . As a general rule of medicine , more serious possibilities should be ruled out first . So it's advised to get a ECG done . People who regularly and more oftenly donate Plasma can have chest pain . Usually 450 ml of blood is donated and more than that should be avoided as it can decrease the venous return to heart significantly and can cause heart pain in some people . Anemia is the other cause which also can cause heart pain . I would suggest you get ECG done first of all and consult your PCP. Best Regards , Dr.S.Tomar
