What Causes Sharp Abdominal Pain And Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods?

I m very suddenly and unexpectedly bleeding from my vagina. The blood is bright red and fresh. I also have quite a sharp pain in the centre of my abdomen. My period ended just under a week ago and I am very regular. I have had flu symptoms and a severe cough for a few days. I m worried I ve coughed so hard I ve injured myself internally and this is causing the bleeding, is this possible?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello

The fresh bleeding you are experiencing now is not related to the flu. I think something else is going on and should be further investigated especially if you are older than 45 years old.

An immediate consultation with gynecologist is recommended together with a complete gynecological exam, ultrasound, and thyroid function test.

Hope that helps.
