What Causes Severe Vaginal Itching Despite Using Cortisone And Benadryl For HSV-2?

Hello .I am experiencing severe itching around my vagina, anus and butt. I was diagnosed with HSV-2 18 days ago. The initial blisters healed on antiviral meds within a week. The severe itching started about a week ago and has not stopped for a second. I tried everything, including Epsom salt bath, soothing ointments, antibacterial itch relief sprays, icing it, baing soda - everything! I don t use soaps or lotions, I barely touch my skin - no wiping, no underwear (I work from home). Cortisone creams and Benadryl did not work. It does not stop for a second and it is driving me absolutely nuts. I don t know how much longer I can take this - I cannot do anything just cry all days and all nights. Is there anything I can take to numb my skin and make it less sensitive so I can rest for a moment?

Hello,

If the itching correlates with the blisters, it may be from healing, like scabbed areas can itch on other parts of the body when they are healing.

If it started with applying creams to the area, it may be an allergic reaction to those. If these things are not the case, it may be a yeast overgrowth. You can try soaking in a tub with apple cider vinegar.

If the area is raw, the vinegar may burn so adjust how much you use, but generally the recommendation is 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to a tub of water.

You can also put it, diluted, on a wash cloth and gently press it against the affected areas. Have you gone in to see your doctor yet? He/she can have a look to try to sort out what is going on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
