What Causes Severe Redness In The Eye After Using Erythromycin?

Hello, can Ciprofoxacin 0.3% eye drops be used in the eye even though the prescription label says to instill 4 drops in the infected ear? I had eye surgery and was given erythromycin ointment for my eye but it makes my eye ball extremely red. My doctor ordered eye drops for me but I ve used it all.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
If there was a recent surgery then this is normal for eye to be red foe several weeks after it and this is not worrying, If, however, surgery was too more than 6 weeks ago, then it may be sign of infection or it may be allergic reaction to erytromicin. In this case you may need to switch antibiotic and have anhistaminice eye drops prescribed by your doctor. try to avoid eye touching and smoky areas during that time.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
