What Causes Severe Redness In Eyes?

I have had severe redness in one eye for 24 hrs..doesn't seem to get any better...located in the 6 to 10 o'clock position. Eyes seem dry and irritated at night especially. I can see the blood vessels as well as two large patches of blood. Has it been scratched?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that you are having severe redness of the eyes.
This can be because of variety of conditions, the most common being conjunctivitis, sub conjunctival hemorrhage, keratitis, acute congestive glaucoma....

If it is painful associated with blurring of vision the causes can be keratitis, acute congestive glaucoma... All these are relatively serious conditions and they require treatment under ophthalmologist supervision.
If it is painless it can be sub conjunctival hemorrhage
If it is painless but associated with discharge and irritation the condition requires treatment by antibiotic eye drops.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
