Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I broky my right ankle really bad 2 years ago and had plates, screws, and pins put it. Well, I recently had them out in March and for the past week now I have been having severe aching/burning pain more on the lateral side. It hurts to walk and even just sitting in one spot it hurts just the same. It is very swollen. I just want to know if I need to do anything? I have a Boot that I could use if that would help at all. I would really appreciate your help!
If there is appearance of swelling with associated redness and fever then I shall advise you to consult to your doctor because it can be due to infection. Mild swelling in post operative period of 2-3 weeks will gradually go away. At present taking at most safety you may do cold fomentation and take a mild anti inflammatory like Advil for relief. You should also apply an ace bandage from below upward from foot to leg and keep your limb elevated on pillow.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mukesh Tiwari, Orthopedic Surgeon
