HI I am having severe pain in the thoracic area I m waiting to get into pain mgnt. I have pinched nerves in my lumbar. my question is why or wondering why I m such horrible pain in my thoracic spine because It used to every once in a while. But know I m such horrible pain that I just can t take it any longer. That s why I thought an extended release pain medication might help . As a matter a fact I m in to much pain to can t type anymore Thank You
Pain in the spine can sometimes progress if there is degeneration in the spine that is also changing. If there is compression of the nerves in the involved area, then this can cause worsening of pain symptoms.
In addition to typical pain medication, you may also need medication that is used for nerve related pain such as Gabapentin or Tegretol or Amitriptyline etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
