What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen And Leg?

I am 75 yrs old--I have had 3 back surgerys now my dr. says I need a right hip surgery. I have severe pain in both right and left lower stomach just above where my hips are and the pain goes down the inside of my right leg all the way to and including my foot--on the left side it only goes to my knee. My Dr says I need surgery on my right hip only. Does this sound right? Thanks for your help. Carolyn

Hello,

It sounds like there may be mixed presentation causing your current symptoms or it could be arthritis on both of your hips contributing to your knee and foot pain due to several reasons including weight bearing.

I suspect that your doctor already had imaging studies for knees when he made a treatment plan for right hip surgery.

In this case, right hip surgery sounds appropriate step at this time. Your both lower stomach pain.

However, may be related to separate issue from your hip pain though, because an inguinal hernia or other GI condition can also present as hip or groin pain as well as lower stomach pain.

If your stomach pain continues, then I advise you to have further work up to rule out such conditions above.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
