What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Hip And Leg?

I have extreme pain in my left hip down the front left leg. I cannot get comfortable, went to doctor yesterday and they gave me prescription for ibuprofen and muscle relaxer. Nothing is even touching the pain. No X-ray or cat scan were taken. Should I go to emergency room the pain is unbearable. I have high pain tolerance so I am really concerned with my pain level. Please help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
I think that your symptoms are related to sciatic pain.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-take pain relievers such as acetaminophen, aspirin, or NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen.
-take muscle relaxants to ease muscle spasms.
-In some cases, a steroid medication is injected into the space around the spinal nerve.
- physical therapy. The proper exercises may actually help reduce sciatic pain.
-bed rest is not recommended as a mainstay treatment. You may find that certain positions and activities are more comfortable than others.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
