What Causes Severe Pain In The Knees?

I had a total knee replacement 3 years ago. I m still experiencing pain in the knee. I suffered nerve damage during the surgery where I couldn t lift my leg/. The surgeon went back in ad now I m able to lift my leg. Because of my ability to barely bend my knee it causes me back pain. My leg is swollen and my quad muscle have bulge and is tight. What can cause this. I also have diabetes. `

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to 'Ask me Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain persisted after 3 years of knee replacement surgery might be suggestive of improper fixation, however without examination we can not surely say that. Secondly you mentioned about diabetes, you should check blood pressure, kidney function tests, ECG to rule out cardiac or renal cause of leg swelling. So first consult another experienced knee replacement surgeon then seek advice of physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Hiren Hirpara
