What Causes Severe Pain In Palm Under The Index Finger?

I fell on my index finger when playing basketball. The area on the palm below it hurt really bad at the time and I went for an xray but nothing was wrong with the bones. The pain subsided after a week and had been palatable for three months now except when I did something vigorous with it, so I thought it was healing. But I hit the same finger again and now the pain is back. Since the problem is not with my phalanges I want to know what other possible reasons, maybe blood vessels, nerves or whatever could be causing the pain. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This can be find out by few more tests like:
a] Ultrasonography
b] MRI
These can help out by visualising ligament, tendon or soft tissue. Surgeries which may be prescribed after these findings but there is seen little exercise proper physiotherapy or healing techniques first tried, then surgery can be thought if its, more problematic.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
